Mosaic Tile Market Meets the Needs of Retro Design Enthusiasts with a New Collection of Glass Tile Blends and Patterns, Inspired by Mid-Century Architecture and Design
Based in California, Mosaic Tile Market sells mosaic tile online throughout the US for commercial and residential architectural installations. The most common applications are for kitchens, baths, pools, walls, floors, fireplace surrounds and fountains. Los Gatos, CA (PRWEB) February 14, 2005 -– Mosaic Tile Market is meeting the
needs of the “retro remodel” with ModWallsTM , a collection of glass tile blends
and patterns in colorations inspired by mid-century modern architecture and
design.
Based in California, Mosaic Tile Market sells mosaic tile online
throughout the US for residential and commercial architectural installations.
The most common applications are for kitchens, baths, pools, walls, floors,
fireplace surrounds and fountains. Many customers utilize a single color of tile
for their projects, but the company’s tile blends have recently increased in
popularity due in large part to a new collection of hip blends created by the
company’s owners.
“We found that, although we allow clients to create
their own custom blends from any of our over 200 colors and 14 lines of tile,
that kind of choice can be overwhelming”, said owners Rebecca Lonergan and David
Bousfield. “Our Trade clients, architects and interior designers, have
experience creating custom color blend combinations, but we were not doing
enough to assist our retail customers in choosing the best blends for their own
home remodeling projects”, recalls Lonergan.
The owners decided to create
blend examples for their website to demonstrate possible color combinations.
Taking a cue from their own passion for mid-century modern architecture, they
put together samples of their 3/4" Kaleidoscope brand glass mosaic tile based
upon that period of design, and the ModWallsTM collection was born.
The
first of over 20 current designs, “Modernist”, was inspired by the textiles of
Alexander Girard, the Director of the Textile Division at Herman Miller from
1952 through 1973. The custom tile blend consists of a field of caramel, with
accents of eggplant, terra cotta, coral, and two shades of denim blue. “It’s a
perfect compliment to the strong lines of modern furniture and architecture and
quickly became a top seller” says Bousfield. “Several architects have purchased
the Modernist blend for their own kitchens and bathrooms.”
Other
ModWallsTM designs include “Mid-Century Modern” and “Mod-Quad”, which feature
retro combinations of chocolate brown, periwinkle blue and white, accented by
either apple green or tangerine. The most popular pool and shower blend, “Palm
Springs”, is a mix of bright blues and sun washed pink. “Pop Art” and “Diner”
give a nod to the colors of vintage cars and comic books combining white with
turquoise or with black, red, yellow and grey.
The owner/creators were
initially stunned at the popularity of their new collection, which now also
includes stripes and patterns that can be applied to an entire surface or as
accents within a field of solid colored tile. “We created something that we
enjoy and have tapped into a whole population of like minded enthusiasts” says
Lonergan. “We’ve discovered that there are hotbeds of modernism everywhere and
we’re thrilled that our retro inspired tile designs now live in homes across the
country.”
While initially the ModWallsTM blends and patterns were
strictly made to order, the company now keeps several of the designs in stock to
meet the needs of their growing customer base. Upcoming designs include a series
made from their Lyric brand of unglazed porcelain tile, which was actually
requested by a customer for her own mid-century bathroom remodel; as well as a
“Tiki” collection using new shades of blue and green glass tile. The owners are
also in discussions with several modern furniture and design showrooms
interested in distributing the new line. Says Lonergan, “The success of this
collection has reminded me that doing what you love is always
rewarding.”
