First Single-Family Detached Homes to be Built in Orange, NJ in Many Years
In a Stabalized City, New Single-Family Detached Homes Slated.
(PRWEB) January 20, 2005 -- The Orange Zoning Board Adjustment has given its
approval for Community Development Corporation, HANDS, Inc.- www.handsinc.org - to construct
five new single-family, detached homes on vacant lots throughout the
City.
The five sites were formerly deteriorated properties that have been
abandoned for years. In their place will rise affordable new single-family homes
ranging from 1350 sq. ft. to 1700 sq. ft. All the new homes have three bedrooms
and two baths. According to Thurmon Cohen, HANDS’ Director of Operations, “These
new homes are the result of a dynamic partnership between the City of Orange and
HANDS. All five lots became City owned, following foreclosure for nonpayment of
property taxes. The Cit, which is committed to smart growth, stabalization and
revitalization, then demolished the dilapidated structures and conveyed the
sites to HANDS. These are the first single-family detached homes to be built in
Orange in many, many years. ”
All five homes will be sold to first-time
homebuyers, graduates of the HANDS First-time HomeBuyers Club. According to
Marty Mayes, Director of Planning and Development, “This is an important project
to everybody involved. The City has been working together with HANDS for several
years on this very important infill strategy and we’re glad to see it finally
come into fruition. I also want to say that the City will continue to work hard
in every effort to see this project completed”.
The new homes will be
built at 376 Hawthorne Street, 41 North Center Street, 133 North Day Street, 29
Oakwood Avenue, and 504 South Jefferson Street.
The new homes will be
affordable to moderate income homebuyers and will sell for $95,000 to $115,000.
Financing for the homes is being provided by Local Initiative Support
Corporation and NJ Department of Community Affairs. According to Thurmon Cohen,
“If all goes well these five new homeowners will be in their new homes by
Christmas.”
