Studio Lilica Unveils Architectural Sculpture as Part of Chicago Area Commercial Redevelopment
Los Angeles Designers Unveil large-scale architectural sculpture as part of new renovation for Chicago area commercial building.
Los Angeles, CA (PRWEB) January 27, 2005 -- Los Angeles-based design house
Studio Lilica has unveiled Nine Wings, a large-scale architectural sculpture in
the atrium of 701. E. 22nd Street in Lombard, Illinois, a premier building from
Chicago based developer Romanek Properties and architects Gary Lee Partners.
The mobile sculpture consists of three 30-foot strands constructed of
permanently flame resistant fabric with a light-weight fiberglass framework.
Each strand holds a trio of winged shapes 10 feet in diameter that cascade from
a single anchor point and rotate independently of each other. The piece was
commissioned by Gary Lee Partners as a centerpiece for the atrium of Lombard’s
prominent landmark building, previously the old MidCon headquarters. “We were
looking for a visually dynamic way to fill the atrium and Studio Lilica did a
fantastic job creating and engineering a beautiful sculpture that utilizes the
existing light and breathes life into the space,” says David Grout, Design
Director for Gary Lee Partners.
Built in 1980, the property was
originally designed by the architecture firm of Skidmore, Owings and Merrill and
includes numerous high-quality features including its signature four-story
atrium. The new renovation has 200,000 square-feet of commercial and retail
space and is home to the corporate headquarters of The Marketing Store
Worldwide.
